Refined Pictou County Plank Technique
Today I decided to tighten up the way I do the plank, or what I like to call the Pictou County plank! As I mentioned in the video, doing the low plank with the hands clasped together is apparently not the proper technique. Having your forearms flat on the mat is more efficient. You also want to keep your shoulders wide and make sure they don’t sag, and keep your back straight. High planks, like getting ready to do a pushup, are also very effective poses as well. Benefits of Doing The Plank on a Daily Basis
Doing the plank on a daily basis is actually thought to boost your metabolic rate by activating different muscle groups. Stretching the different muscle groups is also known to increase your flexibility. The Pictou County plank obviously engages your core muscles which will enhance your overall stability. The plank is also thought to improve mood as the position itself has a specific impact on nerves which is thought to be mood enhancing.
General Guidance for the Pictou County Plank
If you’ve never done the plank before I’d highly recommend seeking the services of a personal trainer to make sure you are learning the proper technique at the beginning. I, myself, am working on my technique to make sure it’s improving and I’m not going to injure myself! Mind you, I was very happy to hit the 5 minute goal. Next goal is 7.5 minutes.
